Having been a huge fan of artist Gerhard Richter for many years I decided to follow in his footsteps and work in a similar style for this painting. I used a credit card to drag the paint along the canvas which gave wonderful texture, especially when different colours where layered and dragged allowing areas of the previous colour to emerge. I wanted it to look quite delicate so I kept to the pale shades of grey and yellow with the occasional hint of boldness in areas to intensify the contrasting textures.
To many abstract art isn’t worthy of being classed as a piece of talented art as at first glance it appears as though a child might have created it. But if people only took the time to study the work closer and appreciate the skill and patients taken to achieve the image before them they might understand that abstract art is in fact just as remarkable and impressive as any portrait or landscape piece. Therefore beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. I had Katy Perry-Firework, Lady Gaga-Applause, and Chris Brown-Beautiful people playing to name but a few whilst painting, these songs always have me singing along or doing my happy dance which I hope reflects in my work.
